| Stardate 990622.22 Today was a very long away mission to Boston, MA. First we decided to break into two groups. The lead car had Tonya Grant at the helm and Mark McCabe at Navigation. Jenny, Shawn and Kira McCabe were in the back of this vehicle. The follow car had Scott Grant at the helm, David McCabe at the Navigational controls and Josh and Daniel Grant in the back seat. I recommend a commendation for Tonya for her evasive maneuvers under the stress of Boston's typical traffic. Our first stop was the Old North Bridge in Concord, MA. We took a photo of SSGT McQuack on the Minuteman Statue, which was especially nice due to the fact that only Dave could REACH the base of the statue. I did learn several aspects of the Concord engagement and I was glad we made the stop. I was dismayed that when we asked my son to climb a tree he said he did not know how. This was dealt with quickly. Our next stop after lunch was the area around Salem, MA. Although it was a horrendous tourist site, it was worth the visit. I had to sustain overt laughter at some developments, and I seemed to seriously upset one lady who seemed to be busy trying to do something. I was still laughing when we got back to the car. Before we left Salem we drove by the House of Seven Gables, an interest of Kira's. We then attempted to go to the New England Aquarium. We discovered that Boston has several items, (1) the most intense driving conditions in the US and (2) the city is in a state of perpetual construction. We were seriously delayed and became separated beyond radio control. We met in front of the Aquarium (but parked in two different areas) at 17:00, just as it closed. We set a rendezvous point and drove off into the teeth of rush hour traffic. Apparently, Scott and Dave went south. Tonja and I went north. Dave and Scott drove within 12 miles of the Rhode Island border and returned to the homestead at 21:45hrs. Tonja and I drove past M.I.T. and Harvard (where Shawn made a $100.00 bet with Kira that he would gain a scholarship to attend there) and then waited for 45 minutes at the northern rendezvous point until 20:00hrs. We arrived back at the homestead at 22:00hrs. Tomorrow's agenda, who knows what will happen, but I count today as a definite plus and I expect tomorrow will be better. LOG NOTE: Have Starfleet designate Boston's downtown traffic as the Badlands. Our sensors and communications were practically useless due to the intensity of the other pilots in the area.
